This course is designed to provide advisers with the skills required to research and reference up to date information relating to social security benefits and welfare reform. It will cover both online and paper resources. This is a necessary skill required to ensure organisations meet the Northern Ireland Advice Quality Standard in relation to case recording.

This course is designed for anyone working directly in a client facing role and whose job role often requires that they work alone, visit clients, or deal with clients on the telephone.

Feeling safe and well doesn’t just extend to face-to-face work with clients, it includes telephone interactions with them as well. This practical, interactive and engaging workshop style training is designed to equip participants with thought provoking awareness raising tools and processes to improve their personal safety on the job, either on or off site.

This accredited course will enable learners to understand the core issues relating to financial capability and how to support others facing financial capability issues. At the end of the course participants will understand coaching and mentoring, issues relating to financial capability, be able to recognise when someone needs support with debt or financial capability and where to go for support including digital resources.

This course is aimed at those who have initial contact with clients and who need to be able to enable clients to access the appropriate advice/support in the most appropriate format. This could include: Experienced advisers, trainees, receptionists and support workers.

In these times of contracting resources and increasing demand for services, advice services need to find ways to prioritise clients’ needs and advisers’ time. This course will provide an overview of: • Statutory rights for consumers • How to identify when consumer rights have been breached • Remedies available to consumers • Common elements of contract law • Where to signpost/refer for specialist advice

As per the Northern Ireland Quality Standard all advisers should be able to provide generalist advice in relation to Education. This course provides advisers with an overview of the main legislation covering educational rights and entitlements for all school aged young people in Northern Ireland. It will address some of the main issues facing young people and their parents. These include; access to special educational needs provision and the rights of the young person; suspensions and expulsions; accessing free school meals and other financial supports. This course will prepare advisers to give basic advice and guidance in these areas and also the information they need to successfully signpost or refer to specialist agencies when necessary.

his skilled level course will focus on the specifics of rental arrears in Private and Social Tenancies and suggest specific strategies to negotiate with arrears in each housing tenure. It will also focus on social landlord pre court protocols and what powers they have to make direct deductions from benefit.

This training is aimed at advisers experienced in face-to-face advice, who want to develop skills in the delivery of advice via the telephone. It is a practical workshop, which will help develop telephone techniques.

This generalist level course is accredited with OCNNI at Level 3. It will help you understand the basic principles of money advice; explore the nature and extent of a debt problem and how to check your client’s liability. This course (or equivalent) is a prerequisite for attending other Wiseradviser courses.
