Understanding Education Rights for Advisers

As per the Northern Ireland Quality Standard all advisers should be able to provide generalist advice in relation to Education. This course provides advisers with an overview of the main legislation covering educational rights and entitlements for all school aged young people in Northern Ireland. It will address some of the main issues facing young people and their parents. These include; access to special educational needs provision and the rights of the young person; suspensions and expulsions; accessing free school meals and other financial supports. This course will prepare advisers to give basic advice and guidance in these areas and also the information they need to successfully signpost or refer to specialist agencies when necessary.
