Since Universal Credit has been introduced into Northern Ireland it has brought a new set of challenges for housing providers, tenants, homeowners and those who advise them. Currently additional pressures have been added with claimants managing their tenancies through Covid restrictions. Temporary legislation had been implemented during the pandemic and, with this due to end soon, there is a concern that housing could be affected.

Welfare reform poses a number of challenges, in particular for those in temporary accommodation waiting to move into the private rented sector. This course equips trainees with the necessary knowledge to assist in UC claims.

This course will give participants an understanding of issues such as completing an application for Universal Credit, rent in advance, sources of finance during the first assessment period, and accessing discretionary payments to help with this wait.
