Join us and other organisations on Feb 24th at Lisburn City Library for a health and wellbeing fair, providing free advice and information on a wide range of topics

CDHN is delivering a Health Literacy Training Mini-series during April for people in communities. The series will consist of five unique training sessions. Each session will explore a different topic related to Health Literacy. The overall aim of the series is to increase awareness and improve knowledge and understanding of health literacy so that: People have increased confidence when using health information and services and feel better equipped to make health decisions Those who support people with health and social issues have a better understanding of people’s circumstances so they can provide the most effective and appropriate advice and help. Each session has been designed to be interactive and participative with use of breakout rooms and Zoom polls and will finish with a short insight gathering session where participants will be asked to share their experiences of using health information and making health decisions. Depending on the participant’s role and interest, they may wish to attend only one session or a number of sessions. Please note there are limited places on each training programme and booking is essential.

The board of CANS would like to invite the general public to a workshop on the mental health needs of people from BAME communities on Monday July 29th at 1pm, in the Queen’s University, Elmwood Building, Elmwood Avenue, 0G/033. Belfast. BT7 1NN. We have had a similar workshop in Dungannon, Derry – Londonderry and have recorded a very important perspective into our data collection for both areas.

This event will be held in the Guildhall in Derry/Londonderry and will have a keynote address by Munira Subasic, the President of the main victim’s organisation, the Mothers of Srebrenica.  It is sponsored and supported by Derry City and Strabane District Council through their good relations programme supported by The Executive Office.

Chairperson’s Report The purpose of the Charity and benefits to the public. All Holy Trinity services aim to improve the advancement of education within the Belfast area. We do this by working in partnerships with local supporting educational services who offers services aimed at Lifelong Learning. Holy Trinity can demonstrate the benefits of mental health and educational support by seeing increase members taking part in our services which will improve their way of life and improve their potential for paid work. The intended beneficiaries are any service user that needs help and support that will improve their quality of life.

Starting as a lock-down project on a desolate piece of abandoned ground, Knockbreda Community Wildlife Garden has developed into an oasis for the local community, where remarkable things can happen in a beautiful space. Come and hear stories of how it has become our Home Ground, with music, poems and reflections as we tour the garden. Note re accessibility: This tour is mostly across level wood-chip paths but also includes some slopes and uneven ground.

Homelessness abounds today in various forms of displacement and as a pervasive condition of unbelonging. It ruins health, lives, communities, habitats, creativity, and hope. Siobhán Garrigan, Loyola Professor of Theology at Trinity College Dublin, will look at theological perspectives on homelessness, arguing that for theology to play its part in ending homelessness, it must better understand its own idea of ‘home’. To this end, she will challenge the tacit, mistaken theology of home that undergirds the various forms that modern homelessness takes, and propose an alternative. Weaving biblical and ritual sources, she will suggest new theological responses to the twin forces of consumerism and nationalism which cause so much of the homelessness experienced in today’s world. Asking people to imagine home as ‘participating instead of possessing’, in every sphere of life, Siobhán will encourage us to engage with a theology of home capable of preventing homelessness and not merely ministering to people experiencing it.
