The aim of the duty to provide independent advocacy is to enable people who have substantial difficulty in being involved in these local authority processes to be supported in that involvement as fully as possible, and where necessary to be represented by an advocate who speaks on their behalf.

Information and advice is fundamental to enabling people, carers and families to take control of, and make well-informed choices about, their care and support and how they fund it. Not only does information and advice help to promote people’s wellbeing by increasing their ability to exercise choice and control, it is also a vital component of preventing or delaying people’s need for care and support

Integration has been a cornerstone of public policy, particularly across health and social care for many years. The Care Act 2014 now makes integration, cooperation and partnership a legal requirement on Local authorities and on all agencies involved in public care.

The local authority is under an ongoing duty to keep the person’s plan under review generally, and to ensure that their needs continue to be met; they will review the plan periodically, involving the person and agreeing any necessary changes.

The term 'transition' is used in the Care Act to refer to the process of change for young people, and those around them, as they progress from childhood to adulthood. Transition is an essential part of human life and experience and can be a time of celebration, change and also challenge for young people.

Outdoor Activity

Excalibur Press

This is a closed event for participating youth groups. Following a successful pilot event in West Belfast at last year’s festival, youth groups from across Belfast will gather in the East of the city in February 2025. By undertaking environmental clean-up activities on Connswater Community Greenway (CCG), they will contribute to the conservation of our outdoor spaces. CCG is a 9km linear park stretching along the Connswater, Knock and Loop Rivers. It is a fabulous asset to the East, offering pedestrians and cyclists a safe route in and through green spaces where wildlife and vegetation thrive. Sadly, there is always litter to pick up, so the help of this young team will be much appreciated. Learning about the significance of this shared space, young people will work together to tidy the area through activities such as gardening, litter picking and graffiti removal, contributing to an improved experience for those using the Greenway. The event will conclude with food and friendship building. This is a closed event for participating youth groups.
