Job Title: Youth Support Worker

Salary: £26,421.00

Hours: 35 per week

Term: 2 year post, with the possibility of extension dependent on funding. 

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Support Worker to join our team, focusing on providing support to our tailored programme ‘Step Up For Change’. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Youth Officer to develop and deliver tailored support services and activities to engage and empower the program participants.

This project seeks to connect young people aged 16-25 years to personalised learning, skills and employment opportunities with a central focus on good relations and preparing young people for the world of work. The aim of PYDP is to help young people build and develop life skills that foster good relations, build confidence and resilience and make them more employable.

This post has been supported under the Personal Youth Development Programme (PYDP), funded by the International Fund for Ireland (IFI) and managed by Rural Action.

Phoenix Education Centre NI is only able to accept applications from those individuals who are currently eligible to work in the UK. We may only interview those applicants who appear, from the information provided, to be the most suitable in terms of the person specification.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Support the planning, development, and delivery of ‘Step Up For Change’ project.

2. To support the Youth Worker to identify, recruit and engage 15 young people who fit within the key target groups of the programme.

3. Build trusting relationships with young people in the target demographic, understanding their unique challenges, needs, and aspirations.

4. Assist in the design and facilitation of workshops, group sessions, and individual support meetings to address the specific needs of youth facing barriers.

5. Provide personalised guidance, advocacy, and mentorship to support youth facing barriers in overcoming obstacles and accessing essential services and opportunities.

6. Collaborate with community partners and service providers to expand the range of support available to youth facing barriers, advocating for their inclusion in existing programs where appropriate.

7. Maintain accurate records and documentation of interactions, participant progress, and outcomes achieved through project activities.

8. Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of project effectiveness, actively seeking feedback from participants and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills:

- A minimum of 1 year of experience working directly with youth facing barriers aged 16-25, preferably in a community-based or youth development setting.

- Demonstrated understanding of the complex needs and challenges faced by youth facing barriers, along with a commitment to supporting their well-being and empowerment.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse youth populations.

- Strong organisational abilities, including the capacity to prioritise tasks and manage time efficiently in a dynamic environment.

- Empathy, patience, and resilience when working with young people who may be experiencing various forms of adversity.

- Flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of youth facing barriers and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the availability of youth participants facing barriers.
