Railway Museum based in Whitehead

Take a journey through the history of Irish railways at Whitehead Railway Museum.

The museum showcases the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland’s large collection of heritage locomotives and carriages, many of which have been restored to their full glory. Interactive displays and exhibits explain the inner workings of steam engines, as well as introducing Berkeley Deane Wise – the man who turned Whitehead into a popular Edwardian tourist spot!

Visitors may catch the site team moving and preparing locomotives for their next journey on the main line or carrying out restoration work on the large collection of engines and carriages.

Regular guided tours of the museum are available, and visitors can explore the signal box and excursion platform at their leisure.

The Edwardian style tea room serves hot and cold drinks and a selection of lunches – museum admission not required to visit. There is a small gift shop for souvenirs.
