Sometimes managing & leading volunteer teams can present us with unique challenges that can be difficult to overcome. Issues like: Volunteers who have come into conflict with each other in a way that is damaging team morale Volunteer teams who dislike & resist changes that the organisation wants to make Volunteers who are not performing well but who are unwilling to step back A volunteer who has clashed with a service user in a way that might damage the organisation’s reputation may arise and need your immediate attention without there being any clear guidance on how best to resolve them. This workshop will explain various strategies, communication styles, and conflict management skills that will help you resolve these types of difficulties. We will then explore some real case studies to think about how to apply these problem-solving techniques in practice.

Can you identify potential risks in your volunteering roles and projects? Do you know how assess these risks and manage them? During this session, we will explore these issues and more, including why we need to assess risk and how volunteer managers can implement this process within their volunteer programme.

Do you know the legal difference between a volunteer and an employee, or the difference between a volunteer agreement and a contract of employment? Are you aware of the legal obligations to protect your volunteers’ health & Safety or the laws that govern how and when you need to request enhanced Access NI for volunteers? In this session, we will explore the differences between volunteers and employees, the laws that can impact volunteering work, and much more, including legal boundaries, and we will clarify best practice when involving volunteers.

The integrated training programme is aimed at those who engage with children, young people and adults at risk.

Keeping Adults Safe: Adult Safeguarding Champion and Appointed Person Training. The Adult Safeguarding Champion role combines responsibility for strategy, operations and oversight for an organisation in relation to adults at risk of harm under “Adult Safeguarding: Prevention and Protection in Partnership” (2015) and the “Adult Safeguarding Operational Procedures” (2016). Some organisations will also have Appointed Persons, with delegated responsibility for day to day adult safeguarding operations.

Keeping Children Safe: Designated Officer Training This one day certificated training is suitable for Designated and Deputy Designated Officers. This session will provide training to assist and support them in carrying out their role and responsibilities.

This is a basic awareness course for those working with children, young people and adults at risk. This half day course covers: legal and policy context of safeguarding; what abuse is and who abuses; reporting concerns; and code of behaviour for staff and volunteers.
