Want to be a Film Critic?

Want to be a Film Critic?

Well if you are aged between 12 -18 here’s your chance to be on a very special cross border film Jury this May in Dublin!

Do you enjoy watching films? Would you like to share your views on what you see on the screen with others? Ever wanted to be a film critic? Well this may be the opportunity for you.

This May, the Dublin Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People is offering a fantastic opportunity for young people aged 12-18 – apply, free of charge, to join the cross border Cinemagic Jury and review a series of short films under the guidance of the Cinemagic team who will explain the basics of film critiquing. Jury members will also have the chance to write their own reviews and be in with the chance of having them published online on the Cinemagic and Film Ireland websites.

Cinemagic is currently selecting 20 young people for its jury panel on Saturday 18th May in Filmbase, Dublin - the 12-18 year old jury will meet from 10.30am-4.00pm. The Cinemagic Jury members will spend a fun filled session with the Cinemagic Festival team, watching and reviewing short films from around the world. The jury panel will get the chance to discuss their favourite films and love of movies as well as making new friends and playing an important role in the Cinemagic Film Festival.

Among the films to be screened in this year’s main Festival programme will be:

Empire of The Sun (Tuesday 14th May 6.30pm Cineworld)

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (Wednesday 15th May 6.30pm Cineworld)

The Karate Kid (Wednesday 15th May 6.30pm Cineworld)

ROBOCOP (Thursday 16th May 6.30pm Cineworld)

Bugsy Malone (Saturday 18th May 11am Cineworld)

Little Shop of Horrors (Sunday 19th May 11am Cineworld)

Joan Burney Keatings, Cinemagic CEO said “The Cinemagic jury is a wonderful opportunity for young people from all over Ireland to come together through a shared interest in film to watch a variety of short films from around the world, which sparks debate and discussion. Among other benefits, the jury offers young people the chance to learn about world culture and see films that have been specifically made for a youth audience. Over the course of the day the jury members discuss the mechanics of short films and how to write effective film reviews.”

The fun-filled Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival programme (Dublin 13th-19thMay) promises an eclectic range of films, masterclasses with film and television industry guests and education workshops for 12-25 yr olds, all of which aim to entertain, motivate and create opportunities for young people.
