Ulster Rugby Team help kick-off the phones4change appeal!

Brian McLaughlin, Head Coach of the Ulster Rugby Team, past pupil Ryan Caldwell and Ulster Rugby player Ruan Pienaar came along to the Royal Belfast Academical Institution to learn more about, and to show their support, for the school’s phones4change appe

The Royal Belfast Academical Institution is one of many schools across Northern Ireland who has already joined the appeal.  The phones4change appeal is a major mobile phone recycling initiative being rolled out across Northern Ireland to help teachers equip their classrooms with state-of-the-art technology at no cost to the school. The proceeds from the recycling campaign will help the Comber Foundation to support vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Romania and Eastern Europe.

In return for as few as 20 used mobile phones a school can benefit from new equipment.  This equipment is chosen by the school for their particular needs, whether it be a new interactive whiteboard or new PE equipment.  Every phone counts- no matter how old or whether it still works or not.

Victoria McCord, Head of English at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution and a volunteer with the Comber Foundation commented on the appeal:

‘It is great that Brian, Ryan and Ruan are here to support such a great charity appeal.  The phones4change appeal works on three fronts, firstly it takes these old, unwanted and even broken mobile phones and recycles them, helping to protect our environment.  Secondly, the proceeds of their appeal make a real and lasting positive difference to the lives of disabled and disadvantaged people in Romania and Eastern Europe, through the work of the Comber Foundation.  Finally, the school who collects the phones will receive great new educational equipment for their school. We are aiming for an interactive whiteboard for one of the English classrooms.’

The proceeds from the campaign will help support the Comber Foundation, which works to improve the lives of children and young people with disabilities in Romania and Eastern Europe.  The charity was founded in 1990 in Comber, and it supports adults with intellectual and physical disabilities to leave institutional care and live in the community for the first time.

The process is simple, to register your school simply go online to www.phones4changeappeal.org or call 0845 301 1057.  We will then issue a collection box to your school, when it gets full (or you have met your target) simply give us a ring and we will arrange a collection for you.  We then process the order for the equipment which would be of most use to your school, and get it delivered straight to you.

So would you like to get a range of educational equipment for your school, while making a difference to the lives of people with disabilities?  If the answer is yes then register for the phones4change appeal and start collecting today!
