TERESA McDONOUGH: HOUSING HERO
It was with much delight, though little surprise, that Habinteg congratulated Teresa McDonough on being named Housing Hero at the prestigious CIH Northern Ireland Annual Housing Awards - showcasing housing’s ‘best of the best’ over the last year
Habinteg tenant, Teresa, is a dedicated mother of four children, two of whom have learning difficulties. As a carer of children with a disability and having a disability herself - visually impaired with around 25% vision - Teresa would surely be candidate for any a ‘hero’ award but it is, in her case, merely the cover page of a quite remarkable portfolio. Chair of Habinteg’s Residents’ Forum, member of the Association’s Board and Housing Management Committee, campaigner for the community over three decades and, working closely with a range of organisations, a tireless public advocate for the right of the most vulnerable in society, Teresa is a beacon of hope for not only those with a disability but for the community as a whole and is truly deserving of the title; Housing Hero.
