Space and Place Announce Flagship Seminars

The Space & Place Programme, funded by the BIG Lottery Fund and headed up by the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland, is hosting a series of information seminars on their Flagship Funding awards.

The Space & Place Team is starting to work its way through the huge number of applications which have been received.

To date, 97 applications have been received totalling well over £30million of potential funding.

The most popular level of funding so far has been the large grants, ranging from £100,001 to £350,000, attracting 55 applications totalling over £16million.

16 flagship grant applications, which can range from £350,001 to £1million, have been received totalling over £13million, with a further 26 applications totalling just over £2.2million for our medium grants which covers funding of £50,000 to £100,000.

Whilst the programme has a rolling application process, there are a number of key dates for everyone’s diary as funding will be given out in 4 tranches over the life of the programme- keep an eye on the website for more information.

The next important date for the diary is the 22nd November 2013.

The Team are holding two Flagship Information Seminars to inform potential grantees about the type of projects the Space and Place Consortium will support.

The event will feature presentations from the Space & Place Team, practical information on what flagship projects need to consider as well as details on how and when to apply.

Dawn Shackels Space and Place Programme Coordinator, said: “We are really excited with how the programme is progressing with more and more applications coming in by the day.

“Interest in the programme has been phenomenal and shows just how much capital investment is required-more than we have the funds to cover- in fact, we could allocate the entire amount of funding just on applications received to date.

“However, while there are some very creative and innovative projects coming through, they are mainly focussed on buildings.

“We would like to see some more outdoor and environmental projects to really maximise the potential of spaces and places in the community, also urging everyone to refer to the programme guidelines to ensure their project is eligible.

“For example, some organisations are applying for less than the minimum amount available of £50k while others are applying for less than 55% of their total project costs.

“It is really important groups read the guidance notes, if you need a copy of them, just ring 028 90 245 927 and ask for a member of staff of the Space & Place Team and we can arrange for the guidance notes to be printed and posted to you.”
