Leading cancer charity Cancer Focus Northern Ireland is starting up its support groups after the summer break and is introducing a short series of support meetings for the bereaved.

Cancer Focus Northern Ireland is introducing a new short series of support meetings aimed at exploring and addressing the needs of those who have been bereaved by a cancer in the family. Grief Support will be led by Cancer Focus counsellor Dr Karen Doherty.

The meetings will be held at the Cancer Focus Service Centre at 40-44 Eglantine Avenue, Belfast, on Thursday September 26, and Thursday October 3 and 10, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The following topics will be covered - living with loss, dealing with uncertainty, taking care of yourself, rollercoaster emotions, making positive changes and stepping into the future.

  • In addition, yoga instructor Sara Bell will demonstrate yoga at the next meeting of the charity's Lavender Support Group which helps young women support each other and cope with living with cancer. The next meeting will be held at the 40-44 Eglantine Avenue centre, on Tuesday September 24 at 7.30pm.
  • Cancer Focus is holding a half day Laryngectomy Conference at Malone Golf Club, Upper Malone Road, Belfast, on Wednesday, September 25, from 10am to 1pm.
  • Coleraine Breast Cancer Support Group is meeting at Rathain Fold, Union Street, Coleraine, on Thursday September 12 at 7.30pm.
  • Armagh Breast Cancer Support Group is meeting in the Main Hall, Dobbin Street Community Centre, Armagh, on Wednesday September 18 at 8pm.
