Shoppers Of Europe Unite!
Cross-border shopping rights, postal issues, and protection when shopping online are just three of the topics to be discussed at a special information event in Letterkenny on Friday 8 November.
The event – which has seen the European Consumer Centre (ECC) Ireland and the Consumer Council for Northern Ireland team up with Trading Standards Service and hosts Europe Direct – will also provide vital information on consumer credit rights and how to avoid scams.
Designed for voluntary, community and advice sector workers, the event is also open to the public and participants will have the opportunity to discuss the consumer issues affecting them.
Aodhan O’Donnell, Interim Chief Executive of the Consumer Council said; “Whether you’re shopping online or on the high street it pays to know your consumer rights and where to get advice if a problem occurs. That’s why we’ve organised this event with our partners from ECC Ireland and Trading Standards Service to give local community workers practical advice and free consumer rights resources to help the groups they work with.”
Welcoming the event Martina Anderson MEP said; “As an MEP I’m keen to support this event which marks the European Year of Citizens and the consumer laws in place to protect EU shoppers. In today’s ever complex markets it’s vital that consumers have the information and skills they need to access goods and services with confidence. This benefits businesses as well as customers and rural economies.”
