Policing and Community Safety Partnerships - information evenings

The NI Policing Board is currently recruiting for the appointment of Independent Members to Policing and Community Safety Partnerships (PCSPs). They are holding several information evenings to allow anyone interested to find out more.

The NI Policing Board is recruiting Independent Members for PCSPs.  Help make your community safer by applying to be an independent member of a PCSP.  We need people who can demonstrate an interest in the local community, community safety or policing issues, either through their employment, community or voluntary activity.

PCSPs are new bodies which will bring together the functions and responsibilities currently undertaken by District Policing Partnerships and Community Safety Partnerships.

There will be one in each council area in Northern Ireland. Belfast will have one overarching PCSP and four District Policing and Community Safety Partnerships (DPCSPs), North, South, East and West.

PCSPs will be expected to:

  • consult and engage with the local community
  • identify and prioritise issues of concern
  • monitor police performance and work to gain the co-operation of the public with the police in preventing crime

PCSPs comprise membership from a number of different groups. They will have:

  • 8, 9 or 10 political members (councillors) nominated by the district council;
  • 7, 8 or 9 independent members appointed by the Northern Ireland Policing Board (NIPB); and
  • at least 4 representatives of designated organisations which the PCSP will have selected because of the contribution they can make, including any others that might be designated by the Department of Justice.

The political and independent members will together form the Policing Committee of a PCSP which will carry out a distinct role in relation to the policing functions previously carried out by DPPs.

If you are interested and want to know more, NI Policing Board is holding information events across Northern Ireland.  Dates and Venues can be found below.  They would encourage you to attend and will endeavour to answer all your questions in relation to PCSPs.
