Patient Sonia raises £3,000 for breast cancer research

Sonia Patton, from Bready, Strabane, who is recovering from breast cancer, raised over £3,000 for research funded by Cancer Focus Northern Ireland into the disease by holding a fun Girls' Night In.

Sonia Patton (46) is married to Michael (47) and they have three daughters, Molly (16), Eve (6) and Alice (4). A volunteer with Cancer Focus NI, her own experience of breast cancer prompted her to raise funds for vital research into the disease, which is being carried out at QUB and funded by Cancer Focus NI.

Sonia first realised something was wrong last year when she felt fluey and under the weather. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy followed by chemotherapy - which she found really tough going - and radiotherapy. One of the difficult challenges for her was telling her young daughters about her illness.
