Occupational health psychology: the role of emotions in organisational life

Occupational health psychology concerns the application of psychology to improving the quality of working life and to protecting and promoting the health, wellbeing and safety of workers.

The speaker will provide an overview of the aims and scope of OHP and subsequently present some of her research that has focused on work-related emotional demands and health-related outcomes in a range of occupational groups.  Particular focus will be placed on emotional labour and wellbeing, and the individual and organisational factors that may mediate or moderate this relationship such as emotional literacy, job involvement and job control. Ways in which the negative impact of emotional labour might be managed in different organisational contexts will also be explored.
