National Energy Action (NEA) Northern Ireland is delivering a Level 3 Award in Energy Awareness from August to September 2023

National Energy Action (NEA), are one of the leading providers of domestic energy and fuel poverty training and education services for over 30 years, NEA is delighted to offer both face to face and online tuition across the United Kingdom to enhance the quality of energy advice services nationwide. The course aims to provide delegates with an understanding of energy advice and the knowledge required to deliver energy advice to householders. This remains NEA’s most popular course for energy efficiency advisers.  Previous candidates who have successfully achieved this qualification have come from the voluntary/community sector, industry, health and housing, local council and consumer bodies

HOW WILL THE E-LEARNING COURSE WORK? Delegates will have access to the course for 5/6 weeks and be able to study online at a time and location that is convenient to them. They will also receive a set of support documents and weekly tutor support via Zoom (video conferencing platform).

COURSE AUDIENCE- This course is designed for staff involved in providing householders with energy efficiency advice either face-to-face or by telephone.

COURSE AIM - The course aims to provide delegates with an understanding of energy advice and the knowledge required to deliver energy advice to householders.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Explain:
-- the efficiency and appropriate use of heating and hot water appliances and systems and the functions of the controls
-- domestic fuel cost data using the Sutherlands heat cost tables
-- how to record gas and electricity consumption and work out costs
-- payment options for gas and electricity
-- insulation methods for improving the energy efficiency of a range of building types
-- Government assistance to help householders improve the energy efficiency of their homes
-- the causes of condensation dampness, how to avoid condensation and remedial actions to combat existing condensation

SUPPORT - We will also support the learning process with a live weekly session with the Tutor which will be arranged via Zoom.

SUGGESTED STUDY TIME - We recommend a minimum of 20 hours to complete the course and prepare for the exam however each learner is different, and e-learning offers the flexibility to study at your own pace.

HOW WILL THE ASSESSMENT WORK? Assessment for this qualification  takes place online. Learners must attend an exam session observed by an NEA registered examiner. For online exams participants will require a quiet room and two separate electronic devices with internet access, sound, and a video camera. Both devices must contact to Zoom (video conferencing platform). Full details on how to join the online exam will be provided.

The online assessment is split into the following three sections and candidates should set aside a full day for the exam:

Exam Paper One (85 minutes)

  • Home Heating
  • Bills, Meters and Paying for Fuel

Exam Paper Two (75 minutes)

  • Cutting Down Heat Loss
  • Condensation and Dampness

Simulation (30 minutes)

  • Setting central heating programmers
  • Energy advisor role-play
