The Andersonstown Art Collective, a local art group in west Belfast, will be hosting a special art exhibition in aid of Cancer Focus Northern Ireland, the new name for the Ulster Cancer Foundation.

The paintings will be on display at Cancer Focus from the afternoon of the 4th – 11th December, 40-44 Eglantine Avenue,Belfast. The exhibition will be during office hours, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, and the paintings are all available for sale with prices beginning at £20.

Deirdre Mullan, who runs the art group, said, “My sister, Kelly, passed away last year when she was only 36, after battling breast cancer. Other members of the group have also been impacted by cancer so we all wanted to use our art to help raise money for a good cause.

“I have been volunteering with Cancer Focus for about 1 ½ years and help Leo McGarry facilitate the Creative Writing Group. I see at first hand the amazing work Cancer Focus does with cancer patients.

“The Andersonstown Art Collective has been running for about 5 years and we always welcome new members – beginners or experienced. Each member of the group has donated one of their paintings to the art exhibition, many of which areBelfastthemed. All the paintings will be framed and we want to encourage as many people as possible to stop by and have a look.”

Joyce Savage, Head of Appeals & Marketing, Cancer Focus said, “We are thrilled that the Andersonstown Art Collective group have generously donated their paintings.  This is an ideal opportunity for people to purchase an original piece of art whilst at the same time raising funds for Cancer Focus.

“All money generated from the sale of the paintings will be used to provide much needed services for cancer patients and their families inNorthern Ireland.  Our services include family support, art therapy, creative writing, support groups, information and support helpline, counselling, walking groups, Zest for Life programme as well as a bra and swimwear fitting service.  All our services are provided free of charge and help hundreds of local people during their journey with cancer every year.”
