The Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) is holding a number of cancer support group meetings this month at the UCF Patient Centre, Eglantine Avenue, Belfast. The cancer support groups aim to help patients develop a holistic approach to living with cancer and are complementary to any ongoing medical treatment.
The Laryngectomee cancer support group will be meeting on Wednesday 28th March at 2.00pm. Dr Simon Killough, Consultant in Restorative Dentistry will be attending and will be speaking about how to deal with a dry mouth and there will time for questions on other oral hygiene issues. Deirdre Conlon, Care Services Manager, UCF and Barbara Hamilton will be co-facilitating the meeting.
There will also be a Lymphoma and Myeloma cancer support group meeting for women on Monday 26th March at 7.30pm. This evening is open to all ladies who have been diagnosed with Lymphoma or Myeloma, or wives and partners of those who have diagnosed. Fiona Barr, UCF Beauty Therapist, will be giving a make-up demonstration. She will also provide a simple makeover and the ladies will receive a free ‘Clarins Gift’.
Deirdre Conlon, Care Services Manager, UCF said, “These support groups are open to anyone with cancer of larynx and any women who have Lymphoma or Myeloma, as well as carers, family and friends. We extend a very warm welcome to all new members. There is no commitment to attend each session and everyone is welcome to come as often and for as long as they wish.
“The support group meetings areinformal and there is no pressure to speak about your experiences; you can just come along and listen to what is being said. Patients in the past have gained a lot from talking to people who are in, or have been in, a similar situation as this can help to reduce feelings of anxiety, fear and isolation and improve quality of life.”
Light refreshments will be available. For furtherinformation or to confirm your attendance please contact Eileen Creery at UCF on Tel. 028 9068 0742.
