Keeping it in the Family- An Information Sheet for Organisations

There is increasing interest from families, particularly parents with children / young people, who are looking for suitable activities that they can do as a family and which offer meaningful, affordable educational experience.

We know that volunteering can provide the perfect conduit for this aim! Many of you out there may be interested in increasing the diversity of your volunteer pool, and in particular exploring how you can involve families in voluntary activities.

Volunteer Now has produced a new information sheet which outlines the benefits of family volunteering, provides case studies of some great existing opportunities and offers basic guidance on how to develop opportunities or adapt existing roles to make them suitable for families. To access the information sheet go to: www.volunteernow.co.uk/fs/doc/publications/family-volunteering-information-sheet.pdf

One-off or group volunteering opportunities are often suitable for families as they can be tailored for different age groups, require flexible commitment and tend to be projects that are short term in nature. Have a look at the ‘Turn Up and Try’ section of the Volunteer Now website to see some of the opportunities being promoted by organisations across Northern Ireland: www.volunteernow.co.uk/volunteering/turn-up-and-try-volunteering-opportunities

Feel inspired to try something out?! We hope so. Make sure to promote your volunteer opportunities on the Volunteer Now website.
