If you employ people, you need to know your equality rights and responsibilities
If your organisation has paid employees, the same equality laws apply to it as to all other employers and the public sector. The Equality Commission offers free, expert training to help you avoid discrimination in employment or in service provision.
As an employing organisation, you need to be aware of your rights, duties and responsibilities and to know how to treat your staff and your service users or customers fairly. It pays to make sure the people who work for you are up to speed with their responsibilities too.
The Equality Commission is offering a programme of free, expert training in a whole range of equality issues, from recruiting fairly to managing the use of social media in the workplace and what to do if bullying or harassment is an issue.
Alongside full day and half day sessions, there are four 90-minute information sessions that will give employers the very basics of what they need to know. There are also sessions specifically for retailers, the hospitality industry and for line managers.
Visit the website at www.equalityni.org/training where you can see the whole range of courses across Northern Ireland coming up between September 2015 and January 2016 and book by phone at 028 90 500 560, by email to edtraining@equalityni.org or online. Attendance at all courses can be used towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
There is also free and confidential advice and support available one to one – last year our staff advised more than 3,000 business callers on equality issues in their organisations. Email us at information@equalityni.org or call us on 028 9089 0888.
