Cancer Focus Northern Ireland is providing two new pilot Exploring Yoga sessions for cancer patients with the help of yoga teacher Jeanne Rankin.

Jeanne is a qualified and experienced yoga teacher, specialising in yoga therapy and providing programmes specifically tailored for cancer patients.

Jeanne said, “Cancer Focus’s Exploring Yoga is a calming and enjoyable service. It has been specially developed for people who are undergoing or who have had treatment for cancer and may be feeling fragile or low in energy. During the sessions participants can learn gentle movements and easy, effective breathing exercises to help build energy levels, strengthen the body and improve their sense of wellbeing. This service will help patients explore how yoga can offer ways to support their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual healing process.”

Jeanne will be taking two 3 hour sessions on Monday 15th and Monday 22nd April in the Jethro Centre, Flush Place in Lurgan.

Liz Atkinson, Head of Care Services, Cancer Focus, said, “Cancer affects everyone differently and it often takes a physical and emotional toll on the body.  Our latest Exploring Yoga Programme has been designed to help relieve stress and tension that can depress the body’s immune system as well as combat fatigue. This is an excellent opportunity to learn simple movements and breathing exercises that are easy, effective and enjoyable and will help those who may be feeling physically fragile.”

Exploring Yoga is provided by Cancer Focus, the new name for the Ulster Cancer Foundation, free of charge. There are a limited number of places available so patients are encouraged to register today.  No previous yoga experience is necessary and men and women over 18 years old are welcome to take part.  For further information or to book your place please contact Cancer Focus on 028 9068 0751 or email care@cancerfocusni.org
