Energy Switching Week 2014

Come along to the Consumer Council’s ‘Energy Switch and Save’ events for free and independent information on the energy switching process and bring along your bill to find out if you are on the best deal.

These events will take place on:

  • Monday 20 October - 1pm to 3pm at the City Hotel, Derry/Londonderry
  • Thursday 23 October 1pm – 3pm at the Spires Conference Centre, Belfast

These events form part of the Consumer Council ‘Energy Switching Week, which runs from Monday 20 October to Friday 24 October 2014.

Aodhan O’Donnell, Interim Chief Executive of the Consumer Council explains “Energy Switching Week is a week-long initiative, designed to help consumers develop their skills and confidence to enable them to switch energy supplier to include electricity, natural gas and home heating oil. As part of this week we are holding two interactive events in Derry/Londonderry and Belfast, where consumers can hear first hand from the energy experts on energy related matters.

Aodhan added “Consumers also have the opportunity bring along their latest energy bill and Consumer Council staff will help them understand it and use it to identify the best deal. Electricity and gas suppliers will also be in attendance so consumers can make the switch there and then if they wish.”

Derry City Council Mayor Cllr Brenda Stevenson has endorsed the Consumer Council’s Energy Switching Week campaign saying she supported any initiative that provides cost saving advice to consumers.

She said: “As we approach the winter months, there are many of us concerned about potential increases in the cost of fuel and energy bills and I am delighted that the Consumer Council have taken these concerns on board and are actively encouraging consumers to shop around and get the best deal available on cost and service. The Energy Switching Week campaign provides consumers in Derry and the wider region with a chance to get advice and assistance from experts offering free and independent advice on all energy related matters. I would encourage householders across the city and region to avail of this service and help bring down the cost of heating and lighting their homes this winter.”

These events will also have information on energy efficiency, switching bank accounts, car insurance, online shopping and general consumer rights.
