Count on a Statistician Day - 20 October 2015

The second World Statistics Day will take place on 20 October 2015, exactly 5 years after the first World Statistics Day.

The event, which will be coordinated by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), will operate under the theme, “Statistics for better decision-making—statistics for better development.”

By way of celebration, the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) is again offering all voluntary & community organisations across Northern Ireland the opportunity to avail of the skills and services of the Agency’s expert statisticians for the day free of charge

Count on a Statistician Day 1 was held on the 20th October 2010.  11 organisations benefited from the skills of a NISRA statistician and the feedback received was extremely positive which encouraged us to offer a second day on 18th October 2013 with 15 organisations participating.

NISRA has statisticians producing high quality statistics and research to government Departments and public bodies, as well as disseminating information to its users efficiently and effectively.  The Agency’s statisticians are skilled in numerous aspects of research, statistics, data collection, analysis, dissemination and management.

There are a range of areas in which NISRA statisticians can help:

  • Database management;
  • Presentation of data;
  • Report writing;
  • Sampling methods;
  • Survey design, analysis and dissemination;
  • Survey harmonisation;
  • Where to find & how to use NI Official Statistics;
  • Analysis of administrative datasets;
  • Trend analysis and forecasting of data;
  • Understanding measures of spatial deprivation measures;
  • Research Management;
  • Geographic information and how to use it, and
  • IT awareness – Excel, Access, SPSS

If you are interested in having a statistician for the day, please complete the attached registration form and NISRA will match an individual to your needs.  The form includes an indication of the type of work which you want your statistician to carry out.  Suggestions for other relevant areas specific to your organisation are also welcome.

This is a great chance to receive tailored expert help free of charge so early registration is strongly recommended as demand may exceed supply.

If you are interested, please complete the attached registration form by Friday, 28 August 2015.
