Consumer Council Calls For Your Response To The Consultation On Its Future
The future of the Consumer Council is under the spotlight with various options for future consumer representation being considered by the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DETI).
Make your voice heard by completing the consultation response on the DETI website by 17 January 2014 or by e-mailing consumeraffairs@detini.gov.uk. More information, including dates of public meetings to be held by DETI, is available at www.consumercouncil.org.uk.
The Consumer Council wants to see the best possible protection for consumers. As the most vulnerable in our society continue to struggle, particularly with high energy and food prices, it is important that we strengthen what is currently in place rather than undermine or dismantle it.
The Consumer Council is an independent organisation. It works to bring about change to benefit Northern Ireland’s consumers by making their voice heard and making it count. It investigates consumers’ and businesses’ complaints in transport, water and energy, for example, it recently helped an older couple to get their faulty electricity meter replaced and to get reimbursed for their miscalculated bill. The Consumer Council also educates consumers on their rights and responsibilities and provides them with the skills they need to make good decisions about their money.
