Community Walk Leader Training in the Sperrins Gateway

Walking In Your Community is hosting an exclusive Community Walk Leader training course, Saturday 1st February 2014 at Springhill National Trust Centre, Moneymore.

Walking In Your Community  in conjunction with Sperrins Gateway Landscape Partnership are providing have an opportunity to attend a free one day Community Walk Leader training course. The course will be held Saturday 1st February 2014 at Springhill National Trust House in Moneymore.

Claire Overend, Development Officer from Walking In Your Community commented ‘The programme offers an excellent opportunity for people to learn about the essential skills to lead short, safe and accessible walks within their local community. It also provides many benefits to local communities as it can increase confidence, create new friendships and improve the physical and mental health of community members.

It is all about easy access to your place and landscape’ added Stéphanie Baine, Landscape Officer of the Sperrins Gateway, ‘This training encourages people to come together in their communities to explore their own area at a level at which they are comfortable.’

Walking in Your Community is an initiative that encourages people throughout Northern Ireland to get walking in their local area. The scheme offers introductory walk leader training and ongoing support to deliver a successful walking programme for local communities.

Walking in Your Community is designed specifically for community group leaders and volunteers as well as club leaders and community members who wish to encourage people to get walking. Trained leaders, known as Community Walk Leaders will set up walking groups to encourage people in their local community to get out walking as part of a regular and enjoyable walking programme.

This free training course for community groups and organisations is designed to provide leaders with the essential skills to lead short, accessible, community based walks within their local green spaces. Walking in Your Community strives to support all Community Walk Leaders and provides further training opportunities to develop the walk leadership skills of these individuals.
