The Ulster Cancer Foundation’s (UCF) Coleraine breast cancer support group is holding its next meeting on Thursday 12th April at 7.30pm in Rathain Fold,Union Street.
Support groups are complementary to any ongoing medical treatment and aim to help patients develop a holistic approach to living with cancer. UCF’s locally based counsellor, Valerie Magowan, will be facilitating the meeting.
The guest speaker for this ‘Creative Evening’ will beJoanne Robinson, UCF’s Art Therapist. Art therapy can help people communicate anxiety or stress, and you do not need to be artistic or have any experience in art to enjoy the benefits. Joanne will discuss how art therapy and art journalling can help patients through their cancer journey.
Deirdre Conlon, Care Services Manager, UCF said, “The support group is open to anyone who has breast cancer as well as carers, family and friends and we extend a very warm welcome to all new members. There is no commitment to attend each session and everyone is welcome to come as often and for as long as they wish.
“The support group meetings areinformal and there is no pressure to speak about your experiences; you can just come along and listen to what is being said. Patients in the past have gained a lot from talking to people who are in, or have been in, a similar situation as this can help to reduce feelings of anxiety, fear and isolation and improve quality of life.”
Light refreshments will be available. For further information or to confirm your attendance please contact Eileen Creery at UCF on Tel. 028 9068 0742.
