Clanmil’s Caffrey Hill Complete

The final 23 families have moved into their new homes at Clanmil Housing’s Caffrey Hill housing development on the former Bass Brewery site in West Belfast.

The final phase of the development was completed last month and all 165 much needed homes at the new scheme have now been handed over to tenants.

The new homes, a mix of 119 houses and 46 apartments, have been built to particularly high environmental standards, making them 40% more energy efficient than homes designed to current building control standards and considerably cheaper to run.  They have also been designed to Lifetime Homes and Secured by Design standards, ensuring added security for tenants and flexibility of adaptation if required at a later date.

The scheme has been designed around a central green which incorporates open space for everyone living at the scheme to enjoy and a play park which was designed in partnership with Groundwork NI following consultation with local children.  The play park opened for use this month to the great excitement of children living at the scheme.

The Gallagher family moved into their new home at Caffrey Hill in October 2012.  Mum, Colette said;

“We were so pleased to be offered one of these lovely houses by Clanmil.  It’s really bright and modern with plenty of room for us all.  The boys are very excited about their new home.  They particularly love the play park and all the open space.  It’s great to have somewhere so close where they can run around and play safely.

 “We only moved in a few months ago, but Caffrey Hill already feels like home,” added Colette.

Clare McCarty, Chief Executive of Clanmil is delighted to see the new homes handed over to tenants.  She said:

“This was a major development project and it’s such a pleasure to see it so successfully completed and our tenants all settling into their lovely new homes.  We wish them many happy years at Caffrey Hill.

 “As well as helping to address the high level of housing need in this area, these new homes provide our tenants with a really good place to live - a place they can call their own, where they feel settled and secure and where they are happy to raise their families.“

Clare added:

“We are very grateful to the local community and their political representatives who have supported us throughout the development of this scheme.  We look forward to continuing to work with them to ensure that Caffrey Hill remains a great place to live.”

The Caffrey Hill development also includes seven retail units which are available for lease to businesses that will support the local community.
