Clanmil Housing rewarded by RICS

Clanmil Housing’s Curzon apartments on the Ormeau Road in Belfast has been recognised for their positive community impact by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

The RICS Awards celebrate inspirational initiatives in the land, property and construction sectors and Clanmil’s Curzon scheme was commended in the Community Benefit category which recognises outstanding achievements in providing a facility which directly benefits the local community.

42 apartments at the Curzon development were purchased by Clanmil in 2009  to provide high quality affordable homes for rent in an area of high housing need.  Clanmil is currently finalising the purchase of the remaining 19 apartments at the development.

Clanmil has worked in partnership with its tenants and the local residents association to fully integrate the scheme with the local community and this award recognises the fact that the Curzon has quickly become a positive addition to the neighbourhood.

Clare McCarty, Clanmil’s Chief Executive, was delighted to receive the accolade.  She said;

“We are very proud of what has been achieved at the Curzon and we would like to thank our tenants for making this scheme such a success.  We worked closely with the local community and their representatives to deliver a housing solution that not only meets housing need but also helps strengthen and sustain the community as a whole, and the Curzon’s success is in no small part due to their willingness to engage with us.  We are very grateful to them for the way in which they have welcomed our tenants to the community and for their continued support in promoting a good neighbourhood at the scheme.”

Marie Guinness, Chair of the local Ulidea Residents Association, also welcomed the recognition, saying;

“To begin with we had our doubts about social housing in this area but the Curzon has quickly become an integral part of our community.  We all want our community to be a really good place to live and we welcome Clanmil’s emphasis on creating and sustaining good homes and communities through ongoing support for the people who live in its housing schemes.”
