CINEMATIC FEAST FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AS CINEMAGIC FILM FESTIVAL LAUNCHES COMMUNITY FILM SEASON.

Young people from different communities across Belfast and throughout Northern Ireland will have the chance to explore the rich world of film, from the comfort of their youth and community centres, as Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People launches its community film screening season supported by the BFI Film Festival Fund.

Over the next 6 weeks, young people in 10 different locations will enjoy the Cinemagic Film Festival experience in their local community. The participants  will be offered a diverse choice of films to select for exhibition and view among their peers, followed by post-film talks led by Cinemagic, to encourage debate, discussion and film critiquing.

The initiative will be underpinned by Cinemagic’s ethos to inspire, motivate and educate young people through the medium of film and it will provide an opportunity for young people to share their thoughts and opinions on a variety of social and cultural issues.

Cinemagic Chief Executive, Joan Burney Keatings MBE said “We are looking forward to our launching our new season of film screenings, designed especially for young people from different communities, who may not have had the opportunity to get involved in the Cinemagic Film Festival experience before.

We will exhibit films from around the world, both new and classic titles, and encourage the young people to explore a wide range of film with the aim of developing a love for film and a greater appreciation of film culture.”

Tim Cagney, Deputy CEO of the BFI comments: We’re pleased to offer this support for film festivals as part of our strategic priority to enhance opportunities for UK audiences, enabling them to access a wide range of British and international stories which celebrate and reflect the rich diversity of life in the UK and beyond.”
