CEO or HR Director – Have you booked your place at employ3?

Chief Executives and HR Directors in Northern Ireland are being called to provide leadership in tackling youth unemployment in Northern Ireland by participating in employ3 – a FREE Big Business Conversation about youth unemploymen.

Organised by Business in the Community, in partnership with the CBI, supported by George Best Belfast City Airport and The Irish News, employ3 is a two hour interactive conference which will put young people at the heart of employment solutions. It is taking place at Belfast Harbour on Thursday 3rd April 2014 from 9.30 - 11.30 am.

Brian Ambrose, Chief Executive, George Best Belfast City Airport is leading the call to action for business leaders to come along and hear from 30 young people (aged 18 – 30 years old) who are currently, or have previously been helped by youth employment schemes throughout Northern Ireland.

He said: “With almost a quarter of our young people unemployed, youth unemployment presents an immediate crisis for society. Looking at the numbers, youth unemployment here is almost 5% greater than it is in the rest of the UK. Young people are feeling the effects of this right now, but we’re all going to feel the impacts as time progresses if we don’t do something about it.

employ3 has been designed to focus on the numbers – looking at the reality of the situation we face but remembering that behind every statistic is a person, their family, their life. Business in the Community has a big goal of supporting 3,000 young people into employment through a range of business-led interventions over the next three years. We’re inviting every business in Northern Ireland to join us on this journey and do their best to be part of the solution.”

“At the event, we’ll look at the ‘power of three’ – business, government and young people. Putting young people at the heart of what we do, business leaders will be inspired to look at ways in which their business can be more accessible to this target group and we will present a unified challenge for businesses to ensure that we are all in it together.

employ3 will feature young people who’ve started their career by getting involved in employability initiatives offered by Business in the Community, the Prince’s Trust and others.
