Call for Young Film Critics for Dublin CineSeekers and CineFocus Jury Panels

The Oscars are over for another year but now comes your chance to be on the Cinemagic Dublin Film Jury and choose the winning films of the festival.

So you might have watched the Oscars or the BAFTAs or any of the many awards ceremonies on TV recently and wondered what it would be like to be on a film jury and decide who wins. Well now you can. The Dublin Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People is back and is recruiting film critic jury panels of 8-18 year olds from all over Ireland to watch and judge a series of  films from around the world during the Festival this May.

The jury will meet in Cineworld Cinemas Parnell Street where they will enjoy a feast of film, learn how to review and critique, and choose the winning films of the weekend. Meet other young film fans with a passion for film and learn about the role of the film critic.

Chris Shaw, Cinemagic Festival Programmer said “The young film critics jury offers young people the chance to meet others with a similar passion for film, to discuss and debate, and to make new friends, whilst expanding their understanding of the different genres of film.”

The juries are divided into three age groups and will meet from 10am-3pm each day:

8-11 year olds will be in the CineSeekers Jury ( Fri 13th, Sat 14th and Sun 15th May)

12-14 year olds will make up the CineFocus Jury (Sat 21st and Sun 22nd May)

15-18 year olds should apply for the CineFocus Jury (Sat 21st and Sun 22nd May)

To register to be part of a weekend of film fun just download a Dublin registration form from www.cinemagic.ie and return to Cinemagic, (Belfast admin address: 49 Botanic Ave, Belfast BT7 1JL) or email Claire@cinemagic.ie by Fri 29 April

The cost to participate is €10.00 per person payable in advance to Cinemagic to reserve a place.

The jury weekends are a cross-border initiative and open to young people from all over Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

The Dublin Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People runs from 13th-22nd May and includes an exciting array of film screenings, workshops and masterclasses for children ages 4-25. The full programme for the 2016 Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Festival is funded by The Department of Education and Skills and supported by Cineworld Cinemas, The Lab, Filmbase.
