The Royal Belfast Academical Institution has worked in conjunction with the Comber Foundation to open the ‘Butterfly Vintage Boutique’ pop up shop at Spires Shopping Mall, Belfast.   The boutique officially opened on Thursday 13th December and offers Belfast some vintage style while improving the lives of young adults and children with disabilities in Romania.

On Thursday 13th December 2012 an exciting new pop up shop was officially opened at Spires Shopping Mall, Belfast.  This pop up shop sells vintage and chic clothing for men, women and children, along with quality handmade crafts.  This shop has been opened thanks to the support of the Royal Belfast Academical Institution, a school which has charity at the core of the school’s ethos.  All proceeds from the shop will go to improving the lives of disabled and disadvantaged people in Romania, through the work of the Comber Foundation.

The Comber Foundation is a home grown charity, founded in 1991 in Comber, County Down, which seeks to improve the lives of disabled children and adults in Romania and Eastern Europe.  One of the many ways which the Comber Foundation practically improves lives is by forming group homes, these homes offer young adults with intellectual and physical disabilities the opportunity to live within a community, outside of an institution, for the very first time since birth.

Fiona Dowling, Executive Director of the Comber Foundation, comments on ‘Butterfly Vintage Boutique’:

We at the Comber Foundation are very excited about this new venture, the ‘Butterfly Vintage Boutique’.  Our pop up shop offers the very best quality vintage and pre-loved clothing, accessories and shoes, alongside some beautiful handmade craft items.  We would like to thank all the teachers, pupils and the wider school community at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution, for their hard work in helping us to make the pop up shop a reality.  Thanks also must be given to all the volunteers who are giving of their time in this busy Christmas season to volunteer to work in the shop.  We invite everyone to come along to the shop to purchase a lovely vintage piece of clothing or handmade craft item, by doing so you will be helping us to improve the lives of disadvantaged and disabled people in Romania.  We thank you for your support.

The ‘Butterfly Vintage Boutique’ was opened in style by Kate Smith, our very own Northern Ireland Television presenter.
