Be a Claus for a good cause!

Belfast is bracing itself for a Santa invasion next month when the first ever Santa Dash will be held in the city centre. Hundreds of Santas are expected to take part in the event, which is being organised by Barnardo’s NI and Cash for Kids.

This festive event will see participants dressed in Santa suits dashing 1.5km through the city centre.

Leona McEvoy, Business Development Manager at Barnardo’s said: “We are inviting anyone aged 17 or over to take part on the day. The Santa Dash will be a really unique event which will see the streets filled with Santas all dashing for a good ‘Claus’. People of all abilities can register get involved by text or online. Every person who registers gets a Santa suit for free!”

Darren Fowler, Charity Manager at Downtown Radio and Cool FM’s Cash for Kids said, “Santa Dash is a festive phenomenon which is spreading across the globe, and this year for the first time it’s coming to Belfast. It’s a really exciting addition to the festive calendar for Belfast and we are encouraging everyone to get their jingle on and join in the fun. By taking part the Santas will also be helping raise vital funds for vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people in Northern Ireland. We would like to thank Foresters, the international financial services organisation, for sponsoring the event as well as the other local companies that have given us their support.”

Joe Jordan, President of the Belfast Chamber of Trade and Chamber, in support of the event said: “We are delighted to welcome the Santa Dash to Belfast. Events like this are fantastic for our city, both in terms of driving footfall before our core retail time and for creating a positive shopping atmosphere. I urge as many people as possible to come along, dress up and get involved –there will be some fantastic offers and discount, as well as lots of fun in the city. This event will really help kick-start Christmas retailing in Belfast.”

The Santa Dash will take place on Sunday 2 December starting at Custom House Square at approximately 10:30am.
