BCPP Level 1 Funding application packs are now available...

The next round of BCPP Level 1 funding has just opened with a closing date of 2 May 2019. The grant award for Level 1 has just been increased to £2,500 and these projects will run for a maximum of six months.

The BCPP programme supports communities and community pharmacists to work in partnership to address locally defined needs so that people make connections, listen to and understand each other better and work together to address health inequalities.  All applications must be from a partnership between a constituted community/voluntary organisation and a community pharmacy in Northern Ireland and must seek to address the social determinants of health using a community development approach.

Applying for a Level 1 grant gives partners the opportunity to experience a BCPP project over six sessions and explore if a Level 2 project application is the next step.Over previous funding rounds, CDHN has received so many diverse applications from a wide range of groups.  One such group was Down Right Brilliant, a project which engaged with a group of parents of children with Down Syndrome to improve their mental health, share experiences and build a relationship with their local Pharmacist, Richard Garvey.  The aim was for parents to gain an increased understanding of aspects of their children’s health and for the pharmacist to learn about local assets and barriers that these parents face in bringing up their children.

Another example of a successful Level 1 application was from Strangford Rowing Club with its members engaging with Gordon’s Chemist to address health issues and address social isolation through group work.  Together with a community partner, they explored how the environment and connecting with nature could positively affect mental health.

One of our previous applicants told us ‘Level 1 was very enjoyable and the training and support from CDHN meant the project was very easy to manage so we have just downloaded our application pack for a Level 2 project. We have so many ideas and cannot wait to get started!’
