A BBC Radio Ulster Appeal on behalf of JT Inspires

JT Inspires is a local charity which was set up in memory of Jonathan Tate.

Like around 180 babies born in Northern Ireland each year, Jonathan had congenital heart disease. As a baby and young child he had to undergo multiple heart surgeries. Despite these difficulties, Jonathan had a keen interest in sport and as a teenager he studied to become a personal trainer. He was keen to encourage other young people with heart conditions become involved in sport. Unfortunately, Jonathans condition deteriorated over time and he had to have a heart transplant, which he didn’t survive.

JT Inspires seeks to provide opportunities for young people with heart disease improve their fitness. The charity has funded personal trainers and exercise equipment such as a sports wheelchair. It also supports a cardiac rehabilitation nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast to help young patients regain fitness after surgery.
