Barnardo's NI celebrates its volunteers

As part of Volunteer Week 2012 Barnardo's NI held an event at Parliament buildings to celebrate its 250 volunteers.

It was the first time Barnardo's NI had organised an official event recognising the work of its dedicated team of volunteers. Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland spoke at the event and presented each of the volunteers with a certificate. The event was also sponsored by Chris Lyttle MLA. Lynda Wilson, Director Barnardo's NI said, "We are so proud of our volunteers and the work they do, they are the back bone of our organisation. We have people across Northern Ireland who give up their time to befriend, mentor, read to children in schools, act as drivers, offer support to parents, help running clubs and activities for disabled children etc. Having such dedicated volunteers helps us reach more children who are vulnerable and to deliver quality services - which is what we all want for children."

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said,"I want to pay tirbute to the volunteers being recognised by Barnardo's for their commitment and the work they do supporting Barnardo's, they are an inspiration to us all and I commend Barnardo's for recognising the wonderful contribution their volunteers make."
