Barnardo's CEO visits Largymore PS Lisburn

Barnardo's UK new CEO Javed Khan recently paid his first visit to Barnardo's NI with a visit to Largymore PS to hear about the range of work Barnardo's carries out in the Lisburn area.

Barnardo's NI has been working in Lisburn for over 20 years initially through its Woodland Family Centre and with its Parent and Infant Programme (PIP) which offers support to over 60 children aged 0-3 and their parents/carers in local areas of Milltown. Ballymacash, Old Warren, Hillhall, Tonagh and Dromara. I

In the past three years Barnardo's NI has also developed a partnership with The Resurgam Trust producing a report entitled 'The Best for Every Child' on the potential to transform disadvantaged communities in Lisburn through early intervention - the result was the introduction of the Early Intervention Lisburn Project and through that Barnardo's NI now delivers its Incredible Years Programme aimed at tackling social and emotional well-being to primary schools: Tonagh, Largymore, Old Warren, Lisburn Central and Knockmore.

Barnardo’s NI has also worked in 12 schools in the greater Lisburn area in the past school year through its  primary school counselling service - Time 4 Me. Over 100 pupils, their families and schools were supported through the service to cope better with bereavement, family problems and worries about friendships and school work. Time 4 Me helps pupils feel less stressed about their problems so they can concentrate better on learning. Schools offering the counselling in Lisburn city included Old Warren, Largymore,PondPark, Tonagh.
