Understanding Debts & Courts in Northern Ireland (S)
About the Course:
This skilled level course will enable you to understand the structures, jurisdiction, and procedures of courts in NI in relation to debt cases and bring this to life with a court visit. Whilst this course is not part of the
MAS accredited cluster. It is a pre-requisite for Skills for Effective Advocacy which is a requirement for Case work and Specialist MAS accreditation.
This course is accredited with OCNNI at Level 3.
CPD Hours:
It is worth 12 CPD hours
Location/Time/Date:
The course will be delivered at Advice NI offices in Belfast This 2 Day Course will take place on Day 1:Monday 2nd November Day 2: Monday 9th November from 9.30am – 4.00pm approximately.
Application/Allocation Policy: In addition to the ‘first come, first served’ allocation policy, Wiseradviser training has a duty to ensure places are available to each partner organisation (Advice NI, Citizens Advice NI, Step Change and IMA). Furthermore there is a maximum limit of 2 places (per course) per agency/branch. Therefore, some applicants will be placed on a reserve list and contacted if places become available.
Fees:
All Wiseradviser courses are FREE to members of the following MAT partner agencies:
• Advice NI
• Citizens Advice NI
• Step Change
• Institute of Money Advisers (IMA)
If you are not a MAT partner agency, please get in touch for a price.
However, for accredited courses a £55 charge is applied for those seeking OCNNI accreditation (Note: this is £80 for the Insolvency course, which has 4 modules). Accreditation is currently optional for accredited courses but the paperwork must be completed for MAS accreditation.

All attendees MUST book their place online at www.wiseradviser.org and NOT using the Advice NI booking form. A notification e-mail will be sent once a booking request is received. Successful applicants will receive a confirmation e-mail advising them of their course place. Where possible reminder e-mails will be sent 2 months and again 2 weeks prior to the course. Should a place no longer be required it MUST be cancelled via the wiseradviser website (see cancellation policy).

About the Course:
Child maintenance is a vital but often misunderstood source of financial help for lone parents. This practical and informative briefing will allow advisers to gain a better understanding of the Child Maintenance Service’s functions to help their clients navigate the service more effectively and maximise their incomes. It will cover:
- Who can claim, the application process and what powers CMS possess.
- It’s impact on Social Security Benefits (and vice versa).
- How the CMS has developed and evolved and what welfare reform means for maintenance.
- What to do if things go wrong with a claim.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone advising, signposting or supporting lone parents, or anyone assisting parents without care to reach an agreement with CMS on payment.

The course will run on the 4th November 2015. It will be delivered at Advice NI offices in Belfast. The course runs from 9.30am to 1pm.

Identifying Social Policy Issues

About the Course:
This half day training course will enable you to understand and identify what social policy issues are and how you can gather evidence and record the issues more effectively for campaigning and lobbying purposes. It will also look at practical steps that can be taken to address social policy issues.
Who Should Attend?
The course is aimed at front line advisers, sign posters and support workers to build upon their one to one advice and casework skillset to overcome systematic obstacles. It is also useful for anyone interested in the social policy work or embarking on a social policy career.

The course will run on the 12th of November 2015. It will be delivered at Advice NI offices in Belfast. The course runs from 9.30am to 1.00pm.

Advanced Mortgage Arrears (SP)
About the Course:
The aim of this course is to enable advisers to feel confident to represent clients in undefended mortgage possession proceedings in Courts. Interactive activities will give you the opportunity to practice in a supportive setting. You will find out the options when possession action has started, what the court take into account and how to handle common proceedings.This specialist level course will soon be accredited with OCNNI at Level 3.

- Understanding the principles of adult learning.
- Building your confidence and skills as a trainer or presenter.
- Creative group facilitation and delivery tips.
- Dealing with challenging training scenarios.

Anyone wishing to develop or improve their training and presentation skills. This can include those who currently train or present, or those wishing to transfer their adviser knowledge into the realm of training and/or presenting.

Good Practice: Providing High Quality Debt Advice (G)
About the Course:
This course is designed for advisers dealing with debt at all levels, who want to provide a high quality, effective and measurable debt advice service. It provides an opportunity to explore key factors to promote good practice in dealing with debt cases which includes; cases management, referrals and quality frameworks, including support and supervision. The course is accredited with OCNNI at Level 3. This is a core course for those seeking MAS accreditation at Advice Work or above.

This award winning training course provides participants with an understanding of the procurement and commissioning process. The course covers a range of issues including understanding public procurement, organisational readiness, identifying and responding to tender opportunities, the tender process, selection criteria and the scoring process. The course was the winner of the highly esteemed National Training Award (Regional winner) in 2011.
