Residential Youth Worker (YW2) (Australia)

Any successful applicant will be able to complete some training within either the UK or in the ROI.

Safe Places will help with relocation, VISA requirements and will support the successful applicant to obtain the relevant police checks prior to commencing or traveling for employment to Australia

Position Title: Youth Worker 2 (Australia)

Annual Salary: $92,155.00 (GBP approx. £47,000) for Youth Worker 2. (Based on experience, qualifications and demonstrated ability within the role).

Current Priority Locations: North Coast, Townsville and Toowoomba (Queensland)

Required Weekly Hours:

  • Average 38 shift hours and 2 sleepovers per week (averaged over 12 weeks). Overtime is managed by an Hours Bank system which can be paid out or taken as time back.

Shift Patterns: 

  • A regular shift is 24 hours long. It consists of 16 hours awake working time and 8 hours paid sleepover period (Included in Salary).
  • This is a shift-based role as with any residential care provider, it is based on supporting the needs of the YP.
  • Shifts within Australia are predominately based on working for a period of 24 hours. This will be broken down into a period of 16 hours and 1 sleepover (8 hours).
  • The standard rostering will usually see a breakdown of 5 x 24 hours shifts a fortnight, which is averaged over an 84 day period. This means over the 12 week (84 days) you would expect to see an average of 5 shifts worked per fortnight.

Position Requirements 

  • A minimum 2 years’ full time employed experience working with young people that have displayed challenging pain based behaviours such as verbal and physical aggression preferably in a residential setting and within the last 5 years.
  • Degree level in social work, youth work or a degree in a relevant subject is desirable, however minimum qualification would be a level 3 diploma (in a relevant subject)
  • Ability to do shift work (approx. 5 shifts a fortnight for full time staff), and sleeping sleepovers.
  • Must have and hold a UK or Republic of Ireland Driver’s License for a minimum of 12 months
  • Able to obtain the necessary International Police Check, and associated State-Specific Police Checks and meet statutory check requirements within the relevant area that you are relocating to within Australia.
  • Able to obtain the required VISA requirements for entry into Australia and to have the right to work for Safe Places for Children in Australia. Certain criteria must be met in regard to the VISA requirements,
