Youth Support Worker in Charge

Purpose of the Job:
The Youth Support Worker in Charge will have responsibility for and actively support HFT’s Youth Work programmes including leading project staff members and volunteers. They will nurture the physical, educational, emotional and social development of young people within Holywood and our catchment areas.
They will play a leading role in building relationships with a wide range of young people engaged in Holywood Youth Centre through group work, drop-ins, workshops and one-to-one provision.
The Role Responsibilities include managing and developing a range of services within the Youth Project including:
- Working directly with young people by assessing their needs and providing activities designed by young people, in line with the Youth Service Curriculum for Northern Ireland, HFT’s Project priorities and funder requirements.
- Helping young people to express their goals, develop positive pathways of development and realise their full potential.
- Facilitating young people to work effectively on their own and in peer groups.
- Encouraging young people to broaden their horizons through new opportunities and contribute towards their own community and society.
- Supporting young people to understand personal risks and adverse experiences, help them to act to effectively address these issues in their lives.
- Encouraging and supporting young people to participate in the residential and outdoor education elements of the programme.
- Promoting and developing inter-community activities.
- Working with staff and volunteers to develop, implement, manage and evaluate programmes of activities, services and facilities in line with the agreed priorities for the Youth Centre.

The Training/Qualifications needed to apply include:
- Essential criteria Level 3 OCN in Youth Work or equivalent.
- Desirable criteria Degree (3rd) level qualification in youth work or relevant field.
- Essential criteria 3 years’ experience working in a paid capacity with young people aged 9-18 years old (including at-risk young people) and delivering programmes in a youth drop-in, youth club, outreach and/or school setting, within the last 5 years.
