The Youth Support Worker will work directly with a wide range of young people, to support their developmental needs by leading generic youth work and targeted curriculum development activities.
Key responsibilities
Working with Young People:
- Facilitate and play an active leadership role in weekly youth club, drop-in, online provision and outreach sessions for young people, aged 9-18 years.
- Communicate effectively and develop substantial relationships with a wide range of young people with various needs and from different backgrounds.
- Plan, develop, facilitate and evaluate programmes, specifically for young people to address their needs.
- Write, facilitate and review group workshops, sessions and activities for young people.
- Support the organisation and delivery of youth-led community events.
- Help young people to express their goals, develop positive pathways of development and realise their full potential.
- Enable young people to work effectively on their own and in peer groups
- Motivate and support young people to play an active role in the project, within our models of youth participation.
- Assertively challenge oppressive behaviour, while maintaining a supportive relationship with the young person.
- Provide information, support and sign-posting to young people.
- Encourage young people to broaden their horizons through new opportunities and contribute towards their own community and society.
- Support young people to understand personal risks and adverse experiences, help them to act to effectively address these issues in their lives.
- Implement HFT’s Child Protection policy and work with the young people to safeguard their welfare and the welfare of others.
- Attend regular team meetings, brief/debriefs and training along with the Youth Team Leader, other youth support staff and volunteers.
- Actively support and work alongside volunteers.
Essential Criteria
A minimum of 2-years experience within the last 5-years, working or volunteering with young people aged 9-18.
2-years experience of working with young people in a youth drop-in, youth club, out-reach or school setting.
Experience of working alongside young people in non-formal, recreational and group environments.
OCN level 3 in Youth Work Practice. OR higher or equivalent relevant qualifications.
