NI Chest Heart & Stroke

NICHS care services offer those affected by chest, heart & stroke conditions to take part in a programme of activities and socialise with those who have been through a similar experience

Belvoir Activity Centre  - Thursdays (term time) from 10am - 12noon Venue - Belvoir Activity Centre - 100 Belvoir Drive - Belfast - BT8 7TD

Under the supervision of a co-ordinator, volunteers assist those attending the scheme to participate in the activities arranged.

Task outline

-        Assist with scheme activities throughout the year

 -        Possibly assist with the transportation of clients i.e. bus escort

 -        Encourage communication with stroke clients with speech difficulties

 -       Mentorand support new volunteers

 -        Report any incidents which will affect the health & safety of clients and other volunteers

 -        Ensure confidentiality of information is respected and adhered to at all times

 -        Assist with the making and serving of refreshments if appropriate

 -        Report any accidents or untoward incidents

 -        Work within the aims and objectives of NICHS and adhere to NICHS policies and procedures

 -        Participate in ongoing self development, training and supervision in relation to the role

 -        Liaise with appropriate others in relation to role/responsibilities

 -        Respect professional boundaries

 There may be other duties specific to the scheme and be deemed necessary by the Scheme Co-ordinator.                                                                            

 

Volunteers must have the ability to take direction and carry out instructions. Good communication and people skills. They must be willing to work as part of a team. Full support & induction is provided by the scheme co-ordinator (help and advice, training queries, protocol, any problems encountered, reimbursement of expenses.)
