We are combating isolation and providing companionship to people with dementia and we are recruiting volunteers! This is your opportunity to get involved from home!

 

When, when and how often?

Our Side by Side Telephone Volunteers offer a few hours weekly or fortnightly to provide companionship and telephone support for people with dementia from your own home.  Ideally you will be able to provide continuity over a minimum of six months.

What will I be doing?

Side by Side Volunteers support people living with dementia in the local community. Your support will help to significantly improve their well-being whilst reducing the risk of isolation so often experienced by people living with dementia.

Is this role for me?

This role may be ideal for you if you:

- Know about, or are willing to learn about, dementia and its impact on people

- Have good verbal communication and listening skills

- Recognise the importance of confidentiality and can show this in practice

- Are prepared to undergo an induction into the role and attend necessary training and similar learning activities to help ou in your role

- Are keen to provide a high standard of service

- Are comfortable following policies, procedures and guidance

- Are committed to inclusion, treating people from all backgrounds with dignity and

- Are comfortable in attending future support meetings

How will I be supported during my volunteering?

Alzheimer's Society is committed to supporting volunteers in whatever role is carried out. For this role, you will be supported by the local side by Side Manager. You will receive relevant induction and training for the role. You also will be provided with one-to-one and/or group based support and will be reimbursed your agreed out-of-pocket expenses, in accordance with Society policy.
