
We are seeking a reliable and dedicated van driver to support our charity's mission by collecting surplus food from various locations and delivering it to our Community Food Hub. This role is essential to help reduce food waste and provide meals to those in need within our community.
Hours per week: Minimum 15 hours per week to include mornings/evenings.
Job Responsibilities:
- Safely drive the charity van to collect surplus food from supermarkets, shops, or other designated locations.
- Handle food donations with care and ensure they are securely loaded onto the van.
- Deliver collected food to the charity’s hub in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of collections and deliveries.
- Communicate effectively with donors and charity team members.
- Ensure the van is kept clean, well-maintained, and roadworthy at all times
- Coordination of support services with the Warehouse Team Leader and Northdown Communityworks
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with shop staff, managers and business owners
- Other duties in line with the needs of the employer
Essential Criteria:
- Full Driving License - for insurance reasons, as the role involves driving a van, the person appointed must be at least 25 years old
- Ability to work flexible hours, including morning / evening shifts and cover team member holidays.
- Physically capable of lifting and transporting food donations.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, professional manner.
- Commitment to the charity's mission and values & knowledge/awareness of the issues faced by our client group
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Qualification (or willingness to achieve this on successful application for role)
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and appropriate boundaries in all matters related to their work
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Previous experience in a delivery or driving role.
