Use and add to your organisational skills with this rewarding volunteer role. You will be taking the lead in scheduling and hosting a monthly support group meetings alongside other volunteers and changing the lives of people living with Parkinson's. Parkinson's UK Local Support Groups offer friendship and support to people living with the condition, their family and friends. Our Newry Group need to recruit a new Support Group Co-Ordinator to be the local contact for the group and take the lead in arranging the schedule of meetings and activities throughout the year. The group meets each month, refreshments are provided and there is usually a speaker to talk to the group, or some sort of activity such as chair exercise, a quiz etc. All this needs to be planned and booked in advance so the role of group co-ordinator is to work with the other volunteers to make sure everything is in place. This is a vital role for the group and very rewarding - ideal if you are organised, outgoing and have approx. 3 hours a week to spare. You will mostly be volunteering from home in the time that suits you, with the support group meeting once a month. It is essential that you are comfortable using email and the internet. Parkinson's UK will provide all the necessary support you need to succeed in, and get the most from, the role so to find out more please get in touch. We'd love to hear from you.

Parkinson's UK Support Groups offer a lifeline to local people affected by Parkinson's and offer monthly meetings where they can get to know others over a tea or coffee, get information, hear from speakers or take part in activities.

Each group needs a lead volunteer who is the contact for the group, leads the planning of the monthly schedule and works with the other volunteers to ensure that the work is delegated and everything is in place for the meetings.

The lead volunteer works closely with the Parkinson's UK staff, the group finance contact, and the volunteer team, to ensure the group funds are properly managed in accordance with Parkinson's UK governance and are used for the benefit of local people with Parkinson's.

This is a vital role that is hugely satisfying and would be suitable for a retired person who wants to use their skills and experience to make a difference to people's lives.

You will need to have a few hours a week to spare, good on-line skills and be comfortable with email and online meeting platforms.

You will have full support from the Parkinson's UK staff team and provided with all necessary training and information.

Please get in touch to find out more.
