Helping Hands Autism Support group in Dundonald currently requires a number of youth project officers to develop and deliver activities (age specific) that will support children and young people with ASD difficulties during Summer Time*.

Hours of Work:

Week Commencing 22nd July 2024 - Mon- Thurs 10.30am -3pm

Week Commencing 29th July 2024 - Mon - Thurs 10.30am -3pm

Week Commencing 5th August 2024 - Mon - Thurs 10.30am -3pm

*Ideally we expect the youth project officer to work all of these hours, although, please let us know when applying if this is not possible.  Thank you 

 

Essential Criteria:

OCN Level 2 in Youth work or equivalent

NVQ Level 2 in Child Development or equivalent

1 years experience working with group of children in school or youth placement.

Age 18 years old plus.

 

Desirable Criteria:

Experience in dealing with children or young people with special needs

Autism Awareness Trained

Child protection trained

First Aid trained

Good communication skills

Good time management skills

Good administration skills

Have a fun and engaging attitude

Work as part of busy team and be a team player

 

Main purpose of Job:

The role of the youth engagement officer  will be to support the development of activity club members within Helping Hands membership.  This will include working directly with children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

 

As part of this role you will:

  • Help the youth project leader with activities (age specific) that will support children and young people with ASD difficulties ie:  Sensory activities, Life skills, Social communication, Anxiety etc.
  • Adhere to Helping Hands policies including Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy
  • To use your own initiative to engage with children and young people who feel isolated or disengaged from the activities.
  • To use your own skills and knowledge to develop activities during a session if needed.
  • To provide accurate information, should you need to record information
  • Set up, spot clean and clear down the Autism Resource Centre at the end of the day.
  • To ask for help and support if a difficult situation arises.
