Social Care Worker for Children's Residential

Main duties and responsibilities

The Residential Social Care Worker will:

  • provide a Key-Worker role to traumatised children.
  • work effectively as part of a social care staff team and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
  • ensure that social care interventions are delivered appropriately to children in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and procedures, the Tusla commissioning contract, guidance from the clinical therapeutic team and instructions from the Tusla social workers.
  • abide by health & safety requirements consistently.
  • work on a rota basis including overnights and weekend cover.
  • adhere to and complete administrative responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • maintain professionalism and consistently demonstrate competence in undertaking tasks and duties.
  • demonstrate a willingness to improve competence through ongoing training.
  • act appropriately using own initiative.
  • work effectively as part of a team.
  • use emotional intelligence in dealings with children, colleagues and key stakeholders.
  • apply theoretical and evidence-informed knowledge to enhance best practice and best outcomes.
  • plan and deliver care in an effective and resourceful manner with a person-centred approach
  • manage self and prioritise workload in a busy working environment.
  • demonstrate a commitment to high standards of practice and strive to create a meaningful person-centred model of care.
  • demonstrate initiative and innovation in identifying areas for service improvement
  • display awareness and appreciation of the children as ‘experts through experience’
  • actively promote the involvement of the children in care planning, decision-making and service development
  • empathise with and treat others with dignity and respect
  • evaluate information and make effective decisions about the care of children
  • display effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).

  • attend individual therapy and group-based therapy

Essential Criteria

If you have one of the qualifications listed below, you may be short-listed.

  • QQI Level 8 in Psychology 
  • QQI Level 7 or Professional Practice Qualification in Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy
  • QQI Level 7 or Professional Practice Qualification in Counselling / Psychotherapy
  • QQI Level 7 or Professional Practice Qualification in Addiction Counselling
  • QQI Level 7 in Youth and Community or similar
  • QQI Level 7 in Social Science / Social Studies
  • QQI Level 7 in Family Support
  • Professional Qualification in Teaching (Not TEFL)
  • Professional Qualification in Nursing Studies
  • QQI Level 7 in Disability Studies
  • QQI Level 7 in Applied Behavioural Analysis
  • QQI Level 7 in Early Years Care where centre caters for children under 12 years.
  • BA in Applied Policing or equivalent
  • Holder of Higher Certificate in Custodial Care (Irish Prison Service) or equivalent
  • No qualification or non-relevant qualification but holder of CORU registration as a Social Care worker 

Other Essential Criteria 

  • Driving License from Ireland or the UK (manual car) 

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working within a residential setting

It is a mandatory requirement that all applicants have legal permission to work in the Republic of Ireland. It is the applicants’ responsibility to evidence their legal permission to undertake paid employment in the Republic of Ireland as this is a condition of employment.

 

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Start date: ASAP

Location: Burnfoot, Falcarragh and Rathmullan, Co.Donegal

Salary: €35,000 – €37,000

Hours of work: 180.5 hours every 4 weeks
