Self-management facilitator - Belfast & Ballymena

Parkinson's UK

Expenses covered
2.50
In the spring we are planning to establish self-management groups in Belfast and Ballymena. To be a volunteer self-management facilitator we ask that you are a person living with Parkinson’s, a partner or current carer.

At Parkinson’s UK we define self-management as: “A process of enabling people with Parkinson’s, their partners and carers to work out and do what they, as individuals, can do in order to take control, live positively and achieve a quality of life that is meaningful for them.”

Facilitating self-management groups is a great way to use your existing skills, share insights and experiences, and support others. You'll lead a group of people with Parkinson's and their carers through our self-management programme

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR AND WHY

  • experience of positively self-managing your own Parkinson's or a current role as a partner or carer for someone with Parkinson's
  • experience of talking, interacting and working in similar groups with peers
  • experience of handling personal, confidential information

Here’s what some volunteers say they gained from being a facilitator:

“This voluntary work has enabled me to feel more confident again and made me realise that I still have attributes and skills to offer.”

“Seeing the change in the participants as they progress through the course and knowing that you have helped is incredibly rewarding.”

“I learn something that helps me with my Parkinson’s every time.”

If you have any questions about this role, please contact Emma on 0344 225 3673 or by email at [email protected]

If you would like to speak with a current volunteer self-management facilitator to help you decide whether to apply please just contact us and we'll arrange it.
